About Us

Therapy Dogs of Johnson County (TDJC is a volunteer therapy dog group, comprised of registered Pet Partner teams. Our teams go through extensive training, beginning with dog obedience training and then participate in either an online course or one that can be attended in our area. A test of the Handler is taken and also the pet goes through basic training to see if they have the temperament and behavior skills to go into the community. Our purpose is to bring the benefits of the human- animal bond to members of the community via animal-assisted therapy and/or animal assisted activities.  We serve the Johnson County area with active programs in Iowa City, Coralville, Hills, North Liberty, Solon, West Branch and Williamsburg.

Our Programs:

Read With Me For Elementary Schools and Libraries

Pet Partners offer a program where teams are part of the Read with Me program and not only visit children in schools but during winter and summer school breaks they go to the local library where children in grades K thru 6 can read to the dogs for 15 minutes on a first come first serve basis. Children improve their reading skills in a unique and fun environment. The mission of the Read with Me program is to enhance quality of life through the human-animal bond.
