Who We Serve

TDJC therapy dogs make regular visits to schools, hospitals, care centers, hospice settings, mental health facilities, youth shelters, and other facilities, who request animal-assisted therapy.

Children and Teens

READ WITH ME program
TDJC’ READ program is a literacy program where therapy dogs are used to promote literacy with area children and teens.  TDJC’s READ program is active in the Iowa City and Coralville, Solon, and hopefully North Liberty Public Libraries, as well as the Iowa City School District.

Domestic Violence Intervention Program
TDJC conducts a READ program with the youth staying at the DVIP shelter.

Pathways Adult Day Care
TDJC teams enjoy displaying new tricks, obedience skills as well as a little snuggle time.  Several of our teams go to visit Nursing Homes in Iowa City and West Branch.    We also provide Hospice care and share pet memories with residents and clients.

University Hospital and Clinics
TDJC teams participate in the UIHC’s Furry Friends program in which registered Pet Partner teams provide entertainment and comfort to patients to enhance the healing process.

We have approximately 20 therapy teams.  Each team (Handler and Pet) determine which area of focus they would like to work.
